WHAT IS COMIC PRESSING?

PRESSING IS GREAT!

Pressing is a process where a comic book is placed under a controlled pressurized environment to help remove rippling or creases. It’s a similar process to books that come “fresh off the press”.

Pressing can remove minor flaws or defects such as dents, bends, rippling due to moisture, non-color breaking stress lines and spine rolls. Pressing a book can use any combination of heat, pressure, and humidification (when necessary) to remove these issues.

WHAT PRESSING IS NOT

It is important to understand that not everything can be removed with a press and clean. At Canada Comic Pressing we will make recommendations when we believe your book will not benefit from a press.

Some examples of non-fixable defects include (but not limited to) color breaking stress lines, color breaking spine ticks, severe spine ticks, extreme soiling and staining as well as rips and tears.

WHEN SHOULD I PRESS A BOOK

A comic should be pressed when it has an accumulation of pressable defects and you wish to improve the desirability, value and/or eye appeal of your book.

If you’re sending the book for grading and it has any financial value, you should ALWAYS press it first. Getting a 9.6 when you could have possibly gotten a 9.8 really hurts.
